Your own Land Cruiser, all day

A private 8-hour day for up to 6 people: an early game drive in Nairobi National Park, the baby elephants at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the Giraffe Centre, in a 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof. Pick it for a guide who answers only to you and an itinerary that bends around the wildlife.

Private Nairobi Safari, Elephants & Giraffe Centre

About this experience

The vehicle is yours. Your driver-guide picks you up around 5:45am from your hotel, residence or Airbnb in Nairobi and heads into Nairobi National Park while predators are most active, per the listing, with the city skyline behind the plains. Mid-morning you move to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant nursery for the public hour from 11am to noon, when the orphaned calves are fed. Then the Giraffe Centre, where you feed Rothschild's giraffe, now usually classified as the Nubian giraffe, from the platform. A souvenir stop and an optional lunch close the day.

It is a private tour for one group of up to 6 people in a custom-built Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, binoculars and unlimited water. The itinerary is flexible: the listing says the guide adapts it to sightings, traffic and what you want, and reviewers say exactly that.

The tour price covers the vehicle and the guide; the three entry fees are paid on the day. Per the listing: the park at $80 per adult, the orphanage at $20 and the Giraffe Centre at $15. In practice that is US$80 per non-resident adult under the 2025 KWS rates (Legal Notice 160 of 2025), paid online through eCitizen; check KWS or eCitizen before you go; the Trust's US$20 donation in cash; and KSh 1,500 at the Giraffe Centre by card or M-Pesa. Bring US dollars in cash for the elephants and a card for the rest.

What guests say

★★★★★

Really excellent way to spend our pre flight day on this private tour; we saw lots of interesting things including rhino in Nairobi National Park, and the Sheldrick Orphanage was wonderful - both the rescued animals and educational about conservation efforts ongoing. [...]

Tips before you book

  • Ask your operator for the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's own booking confirmation email before the day. The Trust takes bookings by email only, with no walk-ins or same-day visits, and the US$20 donation is paid in cash on arrival.
  • Carry your passport. Non-residents show a valid passport at Nairobi National Park under the KWS fee rules.
  • Dress in layers for a 5:45am start with the pop-up roof open.
  • Tell your guide what matters most at pickup. The itinerary is flexible, so rhinos, photos or a longer giraffe stop can shape the day.
  • Ask for a lunch suggestion near Karen if you want a proper meal; lunch is optional and paid by you.
